Where the prices come from

Data from official public sources.

Where stations must report their prices to a public service, OctaFuel shows each station’s own price. Where a country publishes an official maximum or uniform price, or only an average, OctaFuel shows that instead and says so. No guesses, no user submissions.

Station prices

Official maximum and uniform prices

Malta: uniform national price, from the European Commission’s Weekly Oil Bulletin (below).

National and regional averages

Germany, Cyprus, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia: national averages from the European Commission’s Weekly Oil Bulletin (below).

Station locations

Where stations are, their opening hours, fuels sold and facilities come from OpenStreetMap. That is how the map also shows stations in countries that do not publish station prices.

  • No account

Your location is only used to find stations near you, never tied to who you are.

  • Free app, ads with consent

The OctaFuel app is supported by ads and shows them only after you agree.

OctaFuel is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by any government body. Some countries show an official maximum, uniform or average price, not station prices. Prices are shown in local currency; conversions use ECB reference rates and are for comparison only. Prices may differ from the price at the pump.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is OctaFuel free?

Yes. The app is free and supported by ads, which it shows only after you give consent. There are no in-app purchases.

Where do the prices come from?

From official public sources in each country, such as DGEG in Portugal, MITECO in Spain, prix-carburants.gouv.fr in France and MIMIT in Italy. Where there are no station prices, OctaFuel shows the official maximum price or the national average, for example from the European Commission’s Weekly Oil Bulletin. The full list is in the Data sources section. Prices may still differ from the price at the pump.

Which countries and fuels are covered?

All 27 EU countries and Iceland. Station prices: Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Denmark, Iceland, Lithuania, Austria (cheapest stations only) and Romania. Official maximum or uniform prices: Belgium, Luxembourg, Poland, Czechia and Malta. Averages: the other EU countries. Fuels: 95, 98, Diesel, Premium diesel, LPG and E85, where each country reports them. The UK is not covered.

What about countries that don’t use the euro?

Prices are shown in the local currency (for example złoty, koruna, krona or forint). To compare countries, OctaFuel converts them to euros with the European Central Bank’s reference rates; those conversions are for comparison only.

Do I need an account?

No. There’s no sign-up. Open the app and you’ll see prices around you straight away. Your favourites and alerts stay on your phone.

How do price alerts work?

Choose a fuel, a target price and a radius. Each time the app refreshes prices, it checks your alerts and shows you any nearby station at or below your target. Alerts aren’t checked in the background, so open OctaFuel to see the latest matches.

Does OctaFuel show EV charging prices?

No. OctaFuel covers petrol, diesel, LPG and E85 only. Electric charging isn’t included.

When is the Android version coming?

OctaFuel launches on iPhone first. An Android version is planned, but there’s no date yet.
