These terms apply to the OctaFuel mobile app and to the website octafuel.pt (together, “OctaFuel”). By using OctaFuel you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use OctaFuel.

OctaFuel is provided by Carlos Rodrigues, an individual developer based in Portugal. You can contact us at contacto@octafuel.pt.

What OctaFuel does

OctaFuel shows fuel prices in the 27 countries of the European Union and in Iceland. In some countries it shows the price at each station; in others it shows an official maximum, uniform or average price (see below). It helps you find cheaper stations near you or along a route, and lets you save stations and set price alerts. When you tap Navigate, OctaFuel hands off to Apple Maps or Google Maps. It is free to use and does not require an account.

Price data is provided as-is

  • Prices come from official public sources in each country and from the European Commission’s Weekly Oil Bulletin (see “Data sources and attributions” below). OctaFuel refreshes them regularly: up to every hour where the source allows it; some sources publish only once a day or once a week.
  • Station prices are reported to these services by the stations or fuel companies themselves. Prices can be out of date, incomplete or wrong, and the price at the pump may differ from the price shown. Always check the price at the pump before you fill up.
  • Some countries show an official maximum, uniform or average price, not station prices. In Belgium, Luxembourg, Poland and Czechia this is the legal maximum price, and stations may charge less. In Malta it is the uniform national price. In Germany, Cyprus, Greece, the Netherlands, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia it is a national average (regional averages in Greece). In Austria, by law, only the cheapest stations in each area are published, so not every station appears.
  • Prices are shown in local currency. Currency conversions use European Central Bank reference rates and are for comparison only. You always pay the station’s price in the station’s currency.
  • Opening hours, addresses, distances, routes, estimated litres, costs and savings are estimates for guidance only. Savings are calculated against the average price along a route and are not guaranteed.
  • OctaFuel is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by any government body or fuel company.

OctaFuel and all its data are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, availability or fitness for a particular purpose, to the extent the law allows.

Price alerts

Price alerts are checked whenever the app refreshes prices while you use it. They are not checked in the background and are not real-time notifications. Don’t rely on alerts for anything time-critical.

Driving safely

Don’t use OctaFuel in a way that distracts you while driving. Set up routes and searches before you set off, follow the road and traffic rules, and use navigation apps in line with the law. When you tap Navigate, directions come from Apple Maps or Google Maps under their own terms.

Ads

OctaFuel is supported by ads from a third-party partner (Adsterra). In the app, ads are shown only after you give consent, and you can change that choice at any time in the app. The fuel price pages of the octafuel.pt website show ads to every visitor. Ads and the websites they link to are the responsibility of the advertiser. Tapping an ad opens your web browser. See the privacy policy for how ads use data.

Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse OctaFuel: for example, not to scrape or resell its data or server responses in bulk, overload or attack the service, reverse-engineer it except as the law allows, or use it for anything unlawful.

Intellectual property

The OctaFuel name, logo, app design and website are ours. Price data belongs to the respective public sources and is used under their reuse terms (see “Data sources and attributions”). Apple, the Apple logo and App Store are trademarks of Apple Inc. Google Play and the Google Play logo are trademarks of Google LLC. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from the use of, or inability to use, OctaFuel or its data, including costs from relying on a price, opening hours or route that turned out to be wrong. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including your rights as a consumer.

Changes and availability

We may change, suspend or stop OctaFuel, or any feature or data source, at any time. We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version. If changes are significant, we’ll let you know in the app.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Portuguese law. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in the courts of that country. Consumers in Portugal can also turn to an alternative dispute resolution body: CNIACC – Centro Nacional de Informação e Arbitragem de Conflitos de Consumo, the Portuguese national consumer arbitration centre (www.cniacc.pt).
